Prior to 1850, nearly all the cheese produced in the United States was Cheddar. Cheddar production in Wisconsin began in the mid 1800's and by 1880, more Cheddar was produced in Wisconsin than any other cheese variety. Today it accounts for a large percentage of the cheese made in the state, which makes Wisconsin the leader in U.S. Cheddar production.
Rich, nutty flavor becomes increasingly sharp with age. Smooth, firm texture becomes more granular and crumbly with age. Usually golden; also available white. Slice for sandwiches, snacks; shred into casseroles, soups, sauces.
I recently moved to Wisconsin and have been in search for a aged sharp cheddar and I will search no further. Cheese like this is hard to come by. This has now become a weekly staple in my household.

This is GREAT cheese, but see if you can convince them to sell you some of the eight-year or even the ten-year!! This is just about as good as cheese can get!

I live in Brooklyn, NY and still am a Packer's fan. This cheese is great with those grilled hamburgers served with a case of cold Linenkugel's Beer for the Sunday afternoon Packer game! Go Widmer's Cheese! Go Pack!

This is the best Cheddar cheese I have ever tasted. It has just the right amouint of aging and grain. Fantastic on crackers with smoked Whitefish. A summer favorite of ours while vacationing on the beach at Beaver Island, Mi.
