10 Year Aged Cheddar 1 lb Heritage: Prior to 1850, nearly all the cheese produced in the United States was Cheddar. Cheddar production in Wisconsin began in the mid 1800’s and by 1880, more Cheddar was produced in Wisconsin than any other cheese variety. Today it accounts for a large percentage of the cheese made in the state, which makes Wisconsin the leader in U.S. Cheddar production. Description: Rich, nutty flavor becomes increasingly sharp with age. Smooth, firm texture becomes more granular and crumbly with age. Usually golden; also available white. I am not a cheese connoisseur, so for those who can tell the difference between nutty and tangy in their cheeses, this review might not benefit you. But from the perspective of an average “Joe on the street,” I can say with complete sincerity that this is the best cheddar that I have ever tasted. It had a sharpness that was strong but not overbearing and that seemed to crescendo over the course of 2 or 3 seconds so that it eased my tastebuds into the flavor. It seemed to melt in my mouth and distribute its flavor evenly. I loved it…and many of the people I shared it with expressed the same sentiment.
I bought this cheese to commemorate the completion of a doctoral degree that had taken me 10 years to complete. It seemed like a metaphor of my years of hard work (how I’d been aged, moulded…molded over my academic tenure (-: ). I didn’t expect that I would like it so much. Many of the academics who celebrated with me also expressed how much they loved it as well. I will be ordering this again.

If you’re reading this, you appreciate good cheddar and likely already know that Widmer’s is among the best. So I’ll be brief: When I want cheese, I come here for Widmer’s 10-year and 8-year cheddars, I don’t bother anymore with anything else. Life’s too short. Bless.

Upon getting our package of cheese, I knew it would be amazing. The package was marked with how old it was and where it came from. It was marked with a nice gift tag saying who it was from as well. Upon taking it out and opening it, the best smell came out. It is by far the best cheese I’ve ever had, hands down.

We stumbled on the Widmer’s six year old cheddar in a grocery store in Wisconsin a few years ago, and loved it. When we found the web site, we knew we had to try the 10 year old cheddar. The 10 year cheddar is so good it is unbelievable. Smooth and sharp at the same time. For those who think the shipping cost is too much, order more cheese. I ordered an assortment of different cheeses, + 6 lbs, and paid only a few cents more in shipping than if I had ordered 1 pound. This brings the entire cost down. Also, take into consideration where you live, and the climate. I buy twice a year, when the weather is cooler, March and November. So,worth it, and the cheese makes great gifts.

This was a good cheddar but once you add the high cost of shipping I would not recommend to a friend.
Shipping with the larger carriers is getting more expensive each year. We charge exactly what the cost is from them with a small handling fee. We find that it is worth your money if you buy a larger quantity or else on the website we do have a map of the places that sell our cheese. You could check that and see if there are any close to you. Thank you!
